What You Can Do
Join the Songbird Protection Coalition - there is much to do!
On June 18, 2004, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm broke her promise and SIGNED the bill to remove the protected songbird status and allow the shooting of mourning doves in Michigan. Her sad choice to serve a fringe faction has betrayed voters and she knowingly has ignored the majority of Michigan citizens. Contrary to any "compromise" or "trial" spin she may attempt to put on it, the technically flawed and purposefully divisive Act (PA 160) opens the entire state of Michigan to dove "hunting" - indefinitely.
BALLOT COMMITTEE FORMED! With your participation and support, the citizens of Michigan can restore the shooting ban on this beloved backyard songbird. In order to restore the shooting ban, an all-volunteer signature gathering campaign through The Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban has been launched by dozens of local and national groups to qualify a refferendum for the November 2006 Ballot...this will give the majority a direct voice and the right to vote yes or no on shooting doves in Michigan. There is much to do and the doves need you! For more information on how you can help, go to www.StopShootingDoves.org.
YOU can still save YOUR doves! There is much to do and the doves just need your participation. JOIN US today for the continued protection of the mourning dove as a songbird in Michigan!

If you are not a registered voter, the voter registration form can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/sos, under the main menu. The Secretary of State will accept copies of this application printed from the computer image on regular paper stock, signed by the applicant and mailed in an envelope with the correct postage. A picture says a thousand words...
As you can see, pictures can make the site and other printed material more fun. They also give everyone a closer glimpse of this beautiful songbird - up close and personal. If you or someone you know has taken pictures of mourning doves and would like to donate their use to the Songbird Protection Coalition, please contact us. Your pictures can be used as ambassadors for the continued protection of the mourning dove in Michigan.
THANKS FOR MAKING THE DIFFERENCE FOR MICHIGAN'S MOURNING DOVES! ENJOY YOUR SONGBIRDS AT THE FEEDERS!
