1000...NOT, 300 Tops

Great heavy-handed organized effort by the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan, Huron Pointe Sportsmen's Association, Michigan Bear Hunters Association, Michigan Bow Hunters Association,Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO), Michigan Hunting Dog Federation, Michigan State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Michigan State United Coonhunters Association, Michigan Trappers Association, the National Rifle Association and the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance blitzed the media and confidently proclaimed that more than 1000 sportsmen would show to support a dove hunt rally in Michigan.

But not even unseasonably warm 75 degree weather and clear skies could make that happen. Even if you counted the 40+ state legislators, all the kids brought by their parents and one hunting dog, less than 300 showed for the Dove Hunting Rally on November 4th at the Capitol (and we counted them three times from the lawn balcony).

It was like looking at the cast of the movie Deliverance, as one Michigan reporter put it. And these "fine" sportsmen were disrespectful in the House balcony. No baseball caps are allowed to be worn there, when politely asked by the Sergeant in Arms to remove their hats, many took them off only to immediately put them right back on in defiance. Dave Felbeck, of the MCRGO, even went so far as to noisily confront the Sergeant and left the room to go "tell" Representative Tabor, who he said had told him to make sure to wear his hat there. As always dove shooting proponents try to challenge and change the rules to suit their agenda.

If they wanted to build great expectations...300 is a flop and they couldn't deliver!

Side Note: Several uniformed DNR employees were there in an official capacity to advise legislators during the rally, during business hours. What part of "IT IS ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED that the Defendants (NRC/DNR) are hereby enjoined and restrained from holding, administering, overseeing or PROMOTING an open hunting season on mourning doves" don't they understand?

And this is only what we saw first hand...just how much lobbying and promoting are they doing behind the scenes?

It is absolutely in unbelievable defiance of ethics and the law! By a government agency!
