Enough With Mourning Dove Bill

Published 8/17/2003, The Lansing State Journal
It's the season: Enough with mourning dove bill

Call it Michigan's new annual rite.

State Rep. Susan Tabor, R-Delta Township, last week reintroduced a bill to legalize the mourning dove as a game bird for hunting. Tabor has tried - and failed - on more than one occasion to allow Michigan hunters to put the doves in their cross hairs.

Our sense of the issue remains the same:

1. There are plenty of game birds already on the state's hunting list.

2. Surely, Tabor and fellow lawmakers have more important things to do than paint bull's-eyes on mourning doves.
